The big attraction in Huermeda is the Roman ruin of Bilbilis. It's a quick walk down the country highway to get to the trailhead, which is well marked.

The trail is blazed by little green and white flag icons along the way. The kids really got into looking for them. You can see one here on the right side of this wash.

And here's Eero finding one painted on a tree.

Once we got to the top we found numerous Roman ruins. It was quite hot, and we probably should have brought more water. Despite the heat, the kids were in good spirits, and Cielo took this picture of Vernon and Alison posing at the peak, and Eero being himself.

The best part of the ruin was what's left of the old Roman baths. But this oven thing was pretty cool, too.

Hole

On the way back down, Eero wanted to lead the way.

Vernon and Eero got far ahead of Alison and Cielo.

Here's a picture that Alison took looking back down the hill.

Even when you're feeling dehydrated, there's always time to stop and look at a cool bug.

Another nice picture of lichen!

Finally we were back at the highway and on our way back to Huermeda. You can see the main walls of Bilbilis up on the hill here.
