Da Zu - Beishan

Cielo and Dad take a break after climbing the "50 steps" up to Beishan.

Our guide, whose English name is Frank, spoke very good English, but he had trouble in the area of counting steps. We were assured there were only 50 here at Beishan, but it turned out to be more like 250. We got even by making fun of him every time we saw a staircase for the rest of the visit to Da Zu and Chongqing.

We didn't take any other pictures of the famous rock carvings of Da Zu at Beishan, but here's a picture looking down from the hill where they are located.

One thing the locals are very good at in Da Zu is stone carving. This shouldn't be surprising since the carvings here were started in 800 A.D. We bought a nice pair of little stone lions carved by this guy out of the local rock.

No, not those lions, Cielo!

On our way back to the minivan provided by Frank, we ran into (almost literally) a group of schoolkids.

Here's a shot out of the car on the way to the other major stone carving site in Da Zu, Baodingshan. These pretty little farms, which seemed to be growing everything, were seen on both sides of the road everywhere we went.
