We had another day, so we went to see more Gaudi. Park Guell was meant to be a housing development, but that didn't work out, and now it's a public park instead. It was a long walk from the closest metro station, but it is worth it. For one thing, it's another great view of the city.
Up at the very top there's a place to get a snack. Cielo was more than ready for a break.
Eero was in a good mood, too.
Another example of the great view. Yes, that's the Mediterranean.
The park is decorated with ornate, organic, odd towers, like this one in the background.
The is not just light colored tile and wacky towers. This is a beautiful walkway down towards the base of the park.
There is a thriving market at Park Guell. Vendors spread out their sheets, and on top of them, their wares. We were browsing the goods, and Eero was about to buy a little mosaic owl, when suddenly all the vendors grabbed the corners of their sheets, picking them up with all their goods. We looked up and saw a police officer questioning a vendor in the distance. We tried to give the owl back to the salesman we had been talking to, but he waved us off. So, free owl!
Here's what the marketplace looked like before the disturbance. The columns are fantastic, reminiscent of the much bigger ones in Sagrada Familia.
There's a small museum on the grounds. Outside it there are green walkways.
Here's a picture of the museum building. It was not designed by Gaudi, but it was his home for the last 20 years of his life.
Another nice part of the park. Even more bizarre.
