We took a three week driving trip from August 1st through August 22nd. This map shows our route, going out red and coming back in blue.

Our itinerary was: 

8/1 	Leave Mountain View, drive to Pasadena for dinner, then to Palm Springs
8/2 	Explore Andreas Canyon, and go up in the San Jacinto mountains via Palm Springs Tram
8/3	Drive through Joshua Tree National Park, go to Blythe, CA
8/4	Swim in the Colorado River,  visit the Heard Museum in Phoenix, drive to Tucson, AZ
8/5	Visit the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum
8/6	Tour Colossal Cave State Park, Drive to Las Cruces via Hatch, NM
8/7	Go sledding at White Sands National Monument,  lunch in Cloudcroft, drive to Carlsbad
8/8	Explore Carlsbad Caverns, drive to Marfa, TX, with a side trip for dinner in Alpine
8/9 	Tour the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, drive to Pecos
8/10 	Drive to Fort Worth
8/11 	Celebrate Granddad's birthday at Riscky's 
8/12	Visit Ken, Liz, Ken & Paul 
8/13 	Walk down memory lane with a visit to G.D.R.A. (now Lockheed Recreation Area)
8/14	Drive to Bar H Dude Ranch in Clarendon, TX,  go horseback riding 
8/15	Another horseback ride, then drive to Albuquerque, NM
8/16	Explore Petroglyph National Monument, visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center
8/17 	Drive to Acoma Pueblo for a tour and lunch, then to Canyon de Chelly, AZ
8/18 	Take a guided tour of Canyon de Chelly, drive to Sedona
8/19	Play at Slide Rock, explore Sedona
8/20	Visit Jerome for lunch and a museum stop, drive to Kingman, AZ
8/21	Drive to Bakersfield with a lunch time stop for another swim in the Colorado River
8/22 	After one final hotel swim, drive from Bakersfield to Mountain View
