Auckland

After driving from Ayer's Rock to Alice Springs, we say goodbye to Australia and flew to Auckland, on the north island of New Zealand.  We spent a day there before our trip to Nelson and the beginning of our motorcycle tour.

A view of Auckland at night.  In this picture it's probably about 10pm, since it gets dark so late in the summer.

Auckland has a great museum.  It's a beautiful building on a very high point of land.  We saw a bunch of stuff there about Maori culture, including a demonstration of some dancing and songs, and they just happened to be having a motorcycle show, too!

The highlight of the motorcycle show at the Auckland Museum was the Motorized Unicycle, or "Mike".

This is a Britten motorcycle.  There were only a handful of them ever built, and they are insanely fast:

Here's a view back towards the harbor from the Auckland Museum
